What is Job Posting Schema?

Quick Definition
Job posting schema is structured data that describes an open position on a company's website in a form Google can read: title, location, pay, type of work, how to apply, and when the listing ends. Google lists it in its jobs panel, with an apply button that lands on the company's own page, and drops it when the end date passes.

Why It Exists

When someone searches "CDL jobs home weekly Virginia," Google shows a jobs panel before the regular results. The openings in it come from two places: job boards that pay to be there, and company websites that mark their openings up in structured data. A small company with a careers page and the right markup is listed next to the boards, for free, with the apply button pointing at its own site.

What It Looks Like

The Rules Google Enforces

The posting has to be a real, current opening with a real way to apply on the page. It needs a posted date and an end date, and when the end date passes, the listing drops out of Google on its own, so a filled seat does not keep taking applications. Pay is optional but a posting with a real pay range is shown more and trusted more. The same opening posted at ten addresses is treated as spam.

Who It Is For

Any business that hires, but it earns its keep for the ones that hire the same role over and over: carriers hiring drivers, shops hiring technicians, restaurants hiring kitchen staff, contractors hiring crews. The careers page is built once with the markup generated from the openings list, and each new opening is a form entry, not a developer visit.

How To Check It

Search Google for the role and the town. If the company's own opening is not in the jobs panel and a board's copy of it is, the company is paying a middleman for a listing it could own.

See it on a working build: the trucking page shows a driver opening for Ridgehaul Transport marked up for Google's jobs panel.

The Foundation Connection

Job posting schema is one of the Schema types in the Verified Identity layer of the Digital Foundation, and the one with the most direct payoff: a filled seat, with no board fee, from a page the business already has.
